Arctic Tundra

The Cold, Open Lands

Life on The Edge of Endurance

Tundras are large, treeless areas in the coldest parts of the world, mainly in the Arctic and subarctic zones. These habitats are made up of permanently frozen ground and have short growing seasons. Only the toughest plants and animals can survive in these harsh conditions.

The food chains in tundra ecosystems are simple and strong, with hardy grasses and mosses that support herbivores like caribou and arctic hares. These herbivores, in turn, are hunted by apex predators like wolves and snowy owls.
